The problem with “I’m not allowed that”

Content.

“I’ve been told I need to cut carbs.”

“I’m not allowed any chocolate.”

These are phrases I hear all the time in clinic.

And while this advice is often well-intentioned, many people end up feeling exhausted and guilty for inevitably “breaking” the rules.

A gentle reframe I come back to often - Instead of focusing on what not to have (hello, scarcity mindset 👋), what if we focused on what we can have?

It’s a shift from subtraction → addition.

It can completely change how food feels.

For example, imagine you’re heading out for dinner and scanning the menu.

Rather than going in thinking:“I can’t have the hot chips.”

Try asking: “What can I add here for nourishment?”

Maybe that looks like adding a side salad, some roasted veggies, or a protein that actually sounds good. And if there are chips on the table? You can still have some if you feel like it! (because honestly, what is life without chips 🥔).

The difference is that nourishment comes first, not restriction.

Often, when we approach meals from a place of care rather than control, decision-making becomes a whole lot easier.

Recipe Recommendation. Turkey Meatballs.

I don't often cook with turkey, but this recipe has definitely earned a spot on the regular rotation. It's easy, delicious, and I feel like the feta and fresh herbs really elevate it. It also keeps incredibly well for leftovers (always a win in my books). I served mine with some sweet potato and salad :D

PS does anyone have photography advice? (You can hit reply to the email if you do!) The struggle is real - especially right before dinner when I’ve got like 2 minutes 😅

Product Recommendation. Bone Broth.

I have been loving bone broth lately (shout out to Rickii who got me onto this one!), particularly for cooking rice. It feels like such a simple way to elevate a meal and add a little extra flavour without much effort.
