The Truth About Diets (and Why They Don’t Work)
Content.
Have you heard the murmurs in the office about the latest diet?
Or maybe someone’s started their “summer shred”? It can be hard to ignore and before you know it, you’re wondering whether you should be doing the same.
But here’s something near and dear to me: diets just don’t work. Research shows that around 95% of diets fail, and many people regain more weight than they initially lost.
Why don’t diets work?
I often share this diagram from InsideOut, the diet cycle. At first, a diet can feel exciting and achievable. You might even see quick results. But eventually, the physical and psychological deprivation kicks in (what I like to call the “f**k it” stage).
When weight loss slows, fatigue sets in, cravings skyrocket, or life gets busy - the rigid rules crack. This leads to “breaking” the diet, regaining weight, and feeling even more dissatisfied with your body... only to start the next one.
It’s a cycle that keeps companies like Weight Watchers thriving - they profit when people come back again and again.
So instead of jumping into another restrictive plan, pause. Explore what a more sustainable, flexible approach could look like for you.
Because when it comes to health, slow and steady truly does win the race. 🐢💛
Recipe Recommendation. Rice Paper Rolls
Now, let’s swap the diet chat for something a little tastier… At what age is it acceptable to host a rice paper roll party? Yes, it’s a thing!
This recipe was a crowd pleaser and such a fun way to get together over a meal (one of my favourite things to do!)
Product Recommendation. Cheese and Crackers.
I’m not going to try and rebrand it for something other than what it is - cheese and crackers (let’s call a spade a spade). But gosh it’s good! This is a staple in our fridge 😉 I often pair it with a piece of fruit as an afternoon snack to tie me through to dinner!
