Stay in your lane 💛

“I eat so much more than my partner at dinner - I am clearly overeating.”
This comes up a lot in clinic.
It’s only human nature to compare, and when it comes to food, it can be particularly challenging.
Sharing a meal with others is such a beautiful opportunity for connection and joy. But sometimes, the comparison piece can really steal the show.
So, consider this your gentle reminder to stay in your lane.
I often remind clients that we can’t compare our plates to those of our friends, colleagues, partners, or anyone else for that matter because a plate is just a single snapshot in time.
We don’t know what the rest of their day has looked like, how hungry they were coming into the meal, what their activity levels have been, where they are in their menstrual cycle, or what their body needs that day.
And importantly, eating more than someone else doesn’t automatically mean you’ve eaten too much.
Instead, try tuning into your body. Notice your hunger, satisfaction and comfortable fullness, rather than using someone else’s plate as a reference point for how much you “should” be eating.
Your body doesn’t need to eat the same amount as the person sitting next to you. 💛
Nutrition Tip. Triple rinse.
Love legumes but don’t love the discomfort or gassiness that sometimes comes with them? Whilst it’s completely normal to experience some bloating after eating chickpeas, lentils and beans, I often suggest triple rinsing tinned legumes before eating them.
Rinsing removes some of the liquid and fermentable carbohydrates that can contribute to digestive discomfort for some people - and it’s a super simple thing to try if legumes don’t always agree with your gut.
Recommendation. Gratitude Journal.
I’m such an advocate for a holistic approach to health, and I find gratitude journalling to be such a grounding practice. It’s a simple little reminder to pause and notice what to be thankful for when life feels busy or overwhelming.
I continue to repurchase this one from Amazon and love it!
