Always Eating on Autopilot? Try This.

Content.

Ever found yourself halfway through a meal only to realise… you barely tasted it?

You’re not alone. In a world of back-to-back meetings, phones buzzing, and dinner in front of Netflix, eating often becomes just another task we rush through.

But what if eating could be more satisfying - and even calming?

What Is Mindful Eating?

Mindful eating is the practice of paying attention to your eating experience. Not just what you eat, but how you eat.

It’s about slowing down and tuning into your senses: the look, smell, taste, and texture of your food.

Mindful eating has been linked to benefits like:

  • Better awareness of hunger and fullness cues

  • More satisfaction from meals

  • Improved digestion

  • Greater emotional regulation

And no, it doesn’t mean chewing a raisin for five minutes in silence. 🙃 It’s about becoming a bit more present, one bite at a time.

Try this at your next meal.

If you’re curious but not sure where to start, try this mindful eating exercise:

  • Remove distractions. As hard as it can be, that means putting your phone down and switching off the TV.

  • Before your first bite, check in:

    • What does your food look and smell like?

    • Can you notice any textures or colours that stand out?

  • Take a bite, and really taste it:

    • Is it hot or cold? Crunchy or soft?

    • Sweet, savoury, sour, bitter?

Bonus tip: Try a mid-meal check in halfway through your meal. Are you still enjoying it? Are you satisfied?

Mindful eating isn’t about being perfect, it’s about adding a little more intention. Even doing this once a week can shift your relationship with food in powerful ways.

Recipe Recommendation. Creamy Porridge.

I’ve always envied those dreamy, creamy porridge bowls you see on socials - until I tried Elizabeth Hewson’s recipe. Game changer!

With the chilly Sydney mornings lately, this has become one of my go-to breakfasts. It’s warm, satisfying, and I love that it includes an egg for a little protein boost (don’t knock it till you try it!).

I usually take it up a notch with a spoon of peanut butter, a sprinkle of seeds (hello fibre + healthy fats!) and a handful of frozen mixed berries.

So simple. So good. So cosy.

Product Recommendation. Hemp Foods Omega Seed Mix.

Looking for an easy way to nourish your gut and boost your meals?

I love this Omega Seed Mix by Hemp Foods! It contains five different seeds (which our gut microbes love) and adds a lovely crunch to breakfast bowls, smoothies or salads.

Yes, you could make your own, but when I’m time-poor, this pre-mix is a lifesaver. Convenient, nutritious, and gut-friendly. Win-win!
